Queenie -R.I.P.

QUEENIE left us about a week ago. Her tumor quickly swelled and ruptured. Our wonderful vet, Dr. Gordon told us of a new drug to treat this type of tumor, but in the end she was not the best candidate for this treatment.

Queenie was greatly loved by all of the WDR folks, *especially* Nicole, Chris, Angela, Amy and the kids. May she always know that she is loved, as she romps on 'the other side'... Good Girlie, Queenie....

This is what her foster mom, Nicole, had to say:

We are very sad to report that we had to put Queenie to sleep yesterday. She had been a part of Wonder Dog Rescue for over 2 years. She had mast cell cancer which eventually took its toll on her.

Queenie will always remain in our hearts as one of our favorite foster dogs. She was an angel on earth and we are happy that we were able to know her for so long.

We all love and miss you Queenie.

We would like to give special thanks to Dave Gordon of Mission Pet Hospital and Cecile Siedlecki of Bay Area Veterinary Specialists for their help during Queenie's last hours. We would also like to thank Dr. Gordon and the other vets at Mission Pet Hospital for all of their help with Queenie and other Wonder Dogs throughout their lives. We couldn't save the dogs without their help.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Queenie is almost the most perfect dog. She is about 5 years old, a chow mix (possibly with a golden retriever or shepherd), loves people, other dogs, lets kids jump all over her, is housetrained, and is incredibly easy going and low maintenance. Poor Queenie was diagnosed with mast cell cancer about a year and a half ago and only given 3 months to live. Her love of life has kept her alive for all of this time. The only sign of her cancer is a growth on her back leg which does not seem to bother her.
We do not know how much time Queenie has to live because she has beaten all odds. She is looking for a home which will love her until her last day. Her cancer is inoperable so she has no vet bills (beyond normal doggie check-ups and vaccinations). She really just needs a family to take her for a couple of short walks a day, play fetch with her, and give her belly rubs.
Queenie loves to play with her tennis ball! Her foster mom ensures that Queenie gets to play catch for 10 minutes every morning and evening because it is the highlight of her day. She also loves to be brushed. She is very easy going and can usually be found napping on her bed in the living room or sitting in the kitchen while her foster parents prepare meals. She also likes to go for short walks and sit outside smelling the air and grass.
Queenie’s foster parents have three young children. Her foster family has fostered over 100 dogs and Queenie is in the childrens’ favorite top 5 dogs of all time. She came into rescue with the name Rosie but the children renamed her Queenie because she was so majestic and poised. The only reason her foster family has not already adopted her is because they are too busy to give Queenie all the love she deserves. She will be sorely missed but they want to ensure the best possible end to Queenie’s life.
Queenie currently lives in a home with 3 other dogs and she gets along great with all of them. She even likes to wrestle! Her foster parents took care of three small puppies who adored Queenie. They would jump all over her and tug at her ears and she was just happy to have the attention. She would also go into their room a couple of times a day to check on them!
Thank You
Sweet girl, you are now at peace - thank you to our wonderful fosters who gave this girl a loving home not only while she was up and about, but also through the extent of her cancer. it takes a strong heart and limitless love to do this - without you all Queenie would have missed out on the happiest moments of her life. we love you Queenie - *heart*
Quennie is wonderful!
I am Queenie's current foster mom. I have fostered over 150 dogs for Wonder Dog and Queenie is by far the best behaved.
I am a little sad because I know Queenie would have been adopted months ago if it was not for her cancer. You would really never know that she has cancer. It doesn't slow her down one bit. In some ways it actually makes me love her more. She really just loves life and gets so much joy out of everything. She loves to be brushed, she loves her walks, she especially loves her tennis ball, and she even loves watching me cook. She has started to give me kisses on the face to say thank you for little things. She has the most beautiful deep soulful eyes too.
If you have a little extra love for a very sweet girl, please think of Queenie. I really cannot stress how well behaved and wonderful she is.
Queenie is now in heaven
