Nellie

Hi! My Name Is Nellie

Nellie is a sweet affectionate smart little girl with people and animals she knows. She came to us from the shelter in San Jose after being picked up on the street with a broken leg. The poor girl had her amputee surgery and was spayed. She has recovered beautifully and loves to go on walks, loves to smell the grass, and even likes to run. She has some pain in her shoulder when it's cold outside and exhibits this by crying and licking her stump when she is uncomfortable. Keeping her warm is essential, she loves to "dress up" so an extensive sweater wardrobe for winter wear is her preference.
She’s great on leash but needs lots of reassurance that you’re by her side, she will not return to you willingly off leash if she is called. She NEEDS a secure play/outdoor area. She’s potty trained, she loves to sit in your lap, sleep in your bed.

Nelly is very smart and her unfortunate start in life has left her frightened. She can be reactive to strangers and strange places. She is not able to enjoy any public interaction that requires her to face strange humans or animals. In spite of extensive attempts to expose her in a controlled manner, she has not yet been able to adjust to public spaces and exibits fear biting around strangers and strange places.

She does well in limited encounters at home, taking her cues from the other dogs in the house, as long as visitors give her the space she needs.

She would do best in a quiet home, with another small quiet and easy going dog that she can take cues from. While she loves rides in the car, and going to the park or for walks, it must be controlled with no offleash time and no stranger interactions.
