Bonne Chance, Pooh!

From Pooh’s new family: September, 2016

Hi, we wanted to give you an update on Pooh. It’s amazing how much he has changed in 3 months time, especially now that he nears the 1y birthday mark. He lost quite of his “puppy behaviors”. There was a phase where he was scared of everyone on the street. He just entered the phase where he loves to tear up toilet paper, clearly knowing that that’s not OK.

He’s amazing in training. He can stay / sit / go down / roll over / touch very easily. We’re working on his recall right now, leaving food and going to his mat. We also managed to drastically decrease his territorial barking.

We are working on his reactivity – I started walking him more, keeping calm, made him focus on me and it hugely helped. We’re not there yet, but at least he isn’t going crazy anymore when he sees a dog, but stays relatively calm. When there are no dogs around, he walks great. Always on the right side, his pulling the leash is decreasing exponentially… I still remember the day I walked him home and him running in every direction, it’s a big difference now. We are still working on his separation issues too.

Other than that, he is amazing. He is really a joy to train, to take to the beach…he is doing extremely well with the cat of the neighbors, he is fascinated by the chicken in the backyard and when he goes to daycare, he has the time of his life with the other dogs.

On the weekends we take him to my boyfriend’s parents place and he loves the backyard and doing his doggie thing; burying bones, digging them up again and burying them 10 feet further again. As well as chasing tennis balls, disappearing in the plants to show up 30 min later.

In 2 months time, he will have the adventure of his lifetime; we are moving to Europe and we’re taking him with us. He’ll be on a 10h flight in cabin. I hope that everything will be ok, since he loves his travel carrier, however I’m not sure how he will be if he has to stay in there for 10h. To be continued.

I do think that he will be happier in Europe, where there is less traffic and more green/outdoor opportunities. I notice that when he has a bit more space and there are less distractions (like at the beach), he behaves / walks way better than in the busy city streets.

Yay, Pooh!
