Meet our handsome new fellow, Sol! Sol recently arrived in San Francisco after we received a request for assistance from our rescue contacts in Puerto Rico. Our wonderful contacts made sure he was in good health, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before he arrived in San Francisco. Sol is settling in well in the city, and has already attended two adoption events. He was happy go lucky and had his tail wagging with everyone he met, both people and dogs. Sol was especially gentle and calm around young children, and would work well in most households.

Sol is a Beagle or Beagle mix, approximately 5-6 years old. Beagles typically have a life span of 12-15 years old. They are scent hounds that were used primarily to track rabbits, hares and foxes, so they do like to follow the trail of an interesting scent (outdoors and indoors,) and can be reluctant to come when called if they are on a good scent. Beagles are known for being good family companions, as they are generally happy and gentle with people. They are hounds, though, so they do bark some and sometimes howl.

This wonderful boy is learning to walk on a leash, as this was never required of him before. Once he masters his leash skills, he should be a great walking companion. Sol’s breed is typically active, but he personally is more of a moderate activity level dog. He will need regular exercise and portion control to help him lose a little weight and maintain his proper weight, which should be about 22 – 25 lbs.
